As some people might know Xiph released Ogg Theora a while back and it has since been used to stream GUADEC 2004 from Krisitansand and is currently being used to stream the KDE developers conference[1].
Now I noticed that Arch Linux isn't theora enabled yet, and seeing as this would touch quite a few packages like gstreamer, mplayer, xine-lib and so on - I take it that I won't become really popular if I do it myself and release updated PKGBUILDs seeing as these packages are already in Arch and are maintained (not looking to piss anyone off).
Therefore I hereby plead for the maintainers to work with me in getting the first open standardised video steaming format on Arch Linux so to boost it's use and provide valuable largescale testing of the format.

no it's good that you asked on the forums, but it would be better to make a feature request or bug report in bugs.archlinux.org 8)

I wrote a PKGBUILD for this a couple of days ago, pretty simple stuff really. In addition to regular configure && make install, I installed the example encoder as /usr/bin/theora_encoder
The PKGBUILD is here: http://iki.fi/vegai/arch/libtheora/
It seems to be working just fine. I'm encoding a DVD with it right now, and the quality/bitrate relation is excellent 8)

Oh, right. I wrote about that in my blog: http://iki.fi/vegai/journal/2004/08/22#theora-1
I used the Unofficial Ogg Theora Micro-HOWTO (http://www.dogphilosophy.net/SECTION-Te … howto.html) as my source.
