Questions - kde4 update gwenview konqueror kpdf kuickshow

Hello everybody

I have some questions regarding the kde4 update.
First i am not using a full kde desktop. My desktop is gnome
with openbox wm , but i am using various applications of gtk and kde.
My filebrowser for example is konqueror.

Regarding konqueror: Before the kde4 update, when i selected files for
copy or anything else, konqueror showed me at the lower part of the
window how many files i selected and and how much byte they are together.
This is gone. Have i done something wrong in my settings?
Also when i moved the mouse over a file in textmode (now its called detail)
i got a preview of different filetypes like pdf, jpg or even movies in a
popup window. This is also none existent right now. I looked into the
help where a preview is mentioned in icon or column mode, but this
is not the same.

Kuickshow: Is it gone? Will it ever come back? :-) I like it. But when i look
at the homepage of Kuickshow the last update was 24-Jan-2003, so maybe that`s
the reason why they exclude it. I also looked into the source file, but i find
no information if it is possible to compile it with the new libs. Would maybe
a static build or something like klik work, including with all the disadvantages
like more memory consumption and destroying the new libs , be a solution? Ok maybe
not destroying all other apps would be nice. :-)

Gwenview: It is good, but i would like to have the option to use Kuickshow too.
Two problems: First problem is that if switch fast between relative large pics with
the next buttom the picture gets for short moment unwatchable like distorted.
Second problem is that it scales the picture fitting the screen, if the picture is
bigger, but it doesn`t scale up if its smaller.

Kpdf: Same as Kuickshow.

So that`s it. By the way i didn`t experience any crashes or bugs. It seems to be stable.

Thanks for your answers

Interesting how you've picked a few things to use without the whole DE. smile

One piece at a time...Gwenview was replaced by kdegraphics. Still works, but I found it lacked all the nifty functions I fell in love with Gwenview for. At the very least they weren't obivous and I didn't find them. Kuickshow...long time no see! I assumed that this was rolled into Gwenview a long time ago. Or at the very least I thought Gwenview supplanted it.

Kpdf has been rolled into Okular (sp?) It's the multi-purpose file viewer for KDE 4. It also previews several other file formats as well.

Konquerer 4 is useless as a file manager now. Most of the things I loved are gone. They replaced it with Dolphin. Dolphin is good and powerful for file management, although I found it cluttered.
