Hi,
I just did a fresh install of ARCH64. I installed jre and gnash-gtk fine. I'm wondering how to use these within Firefox? jre said I should install "libxtst" to use java in my browser. I'm not sure what to do with gnash to get it working. I know I probably need to sym link some files but I'm not sure which ones or where?
Thanks

For Java: There currently isn't a 64 bit Java web plug-in shipped with the official Java 6. Your easiest option is to install openjdk6 from testing. Either that or you're going to have to install a bunch of 32 bit libraries or a 32 chroot.
For Flash: Gnash should install the plug-in on its own. But, swfdec is better. But but, Flash through nspluginwrapper is way better. But but but, Flash 10 beta through nspluginwrapper is the best. Look up Flash for 64 bit in the wiki for instructions. nspluginwrapper and nspluginwrapper-flash-beta are both in AUR.

Whoa, that's a lot of buts... thanks for all the info and the quick reply. I'm sure I'll find a solution in there somewhere. :-)

If you need any help, just post back here. I have Flash 10 Beta and OpenJDK running, and everything is working great.

i just installed Archlinux today, and it's definitely been an adventure, a 15 hour one at this point. i'm currently stuck on wine, my wireless, and flash. i tried to install flash 10 beta with nspluginwrapper like you said, but nspluginwrapper and nspluginwrapper-flash both give me dependancy errors when i try to run makepkg... i have to call it a day, but if you can give me any advice i'll try again tomorrow :]

Like skottish I have java and flash 10 working on my 64bit system. The quickest way to resolve issues I have found is to use yaourt rather than pacman to install most things. I'd take a good look at that, it just grabs all the stuff it needs and installs them from wherever, AUR, and all the repositories you have added to pacman. Bit of a messy interface when you first use it, but it's fantastic ![]()

Hey everyone,
I'd like to report that I just reinstalled Arch and followed the suggestion to install flash 10 beta. Everyting looks fine and the flash intensive websites like youtube are working without a hitch. I used yaourt and no dependency problems at all.
Regarding java I'm not sure about installing something from testing. What about icedtea? It is available from archlinuxfr and also from AUR. Are there any real disadvantages when using this instead of openJDK or the official Sun's java? Does it work with OpenOffice?
TIA

Hiya Warper,
openjdk6 is IcedTea:
[skottish@iasE ~]$ pacman -Qi openjdk6
Name : openjdk6
Version : 1.2-2
URL : http://icedtea.classpath.org
snip...The French repos, testing, AUR, it's all fine. I was building my own from AUR, then I tried the one from the French repos, then I installed the one from testing. That's the one that I'm using now.
As far as Sun's Java? This is Sun's Java. It's just had the closed source commercial stuff stripped and replaced with open source stuff. Is it a one to one replacement? No, it's not. It's getting closer all the time though. And yes, it does work with OO.

Thanks for the advice Skottish. I've just installed icedtea6 and everything seems to work fine, a bit slow, but fine.
