I've searched google and the forums, and I can't seem to find a way to set folder icons. You know, a folder with a music note for the music folder, etc. When I used KDE it was automatic, based off the largest category of files in the folder, but now I'm using xmonad and thunar, and I'm looking for a manual way

I don't believe that Thunar supports such a thing, though I know that Nautilus does under Edit -> Backgrounds and Emblems.

This happened to me, I think.
Thunar doesn't "come with" any icon sets or anything, it just uses the one you have defined in .Xdefaults. (I think!)
Are your icons showing up like little pieces of paper?
What I did to fix was use pacman to grab the tango icon theme, then set them as the default through .Xdefaults. Then I just restarted X and thunar used them.
Search the wiki for Icons and it will surely tell you where/how to install some.
Hope this helps!

you can manually put "emblems" on folders and files in thunar (up to four for each icon).
just right-click -> properties -> emblems
you can even use your own emblems (puy them in /usr/share/icons/ICONTHEME/ICONSIZE/emblems)

Thanks robmaloy! That's what I was looking for! I guess this theme doesn't have any default emblems, so when I tried in thunar it showed a blank screen
