Sonata and MPD Issue

I have an external usb 2.0 hard drive (fat32) set as my mpd music directory (a large library of music). My problem is that sonata stops being able to control mpd and basically loses connection with mpd when i go to play something new from my library or if I haven't played anything in sonata for a while. I know this is probably because the external hard drive goes idle and it takes a second for it to wake up and find the mp3's I am telling it to play, but it sucks when i have to restart sonata because, although mpd gets the message to start playing the file, sonata stops responding. Is there any solution to this aside from somehow keeping the harddrive from going idle, which to me isn't really a solution, that is a feature i like and would like to keep.

Re: Sonata and MPD Issue

I have the exactly same problem and there seams to be no solution... I just restart Sonata.

Re: Sonata and MPD Issue

You should file a bugreport, the developer of sonata always fixes the bugs in the next release after I had filed them.

Re: Sonata and MPD Issue

Yes file a bug report. It's difficult for a developer to know how well the software works in all and every configuration. I thought of using an external drive myself but I'll wait and see what would be a good choice.

By the way, be happy you didn't buy one of those external hard drives that refuse to resume at all on Linux platforms because of badly designed firmware.

Re: Sonata and MPD Issue

For anyone interested, I submitted a bug report a week ago and one of the maintainers uploaded a patch for my problem, so far it acts a decent enough workaround and has made my sonata experience alot less tedious. The fix might help out those having suspend issues as well. If you want to try it out you can install the latest svn version.
