Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

When I play a graphics intense game (well... not that intense by today standarts - I'm talking about Frozen Throne or World of Warcraft) the fps would slowly start to drop down (becomes noticeble after 20 or so minutes) and then at about 30 minutes from game start, system would hard lock - no keyboard input recognized, I can move the mouse (and hear the music from the game) but I cannot do anything else and the only solution is hard reboot. I noticed that after a crash Xorg.0.log.old would contain many of these (look at the end of the file)

Google says there are many bug reports regarding such crash, but most of them are marked as fixed, yet some users still report they have hard locks...

Here's my xorg.conf

Re: Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

We are talking about a notebook here... It's summer and it's quite hot even with the window open... When i play cpu temp jumps but I have no sensor on the GPU in order to tell you whether it is overheating...

Re: Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

Sure thing tongue
BTW I managed to play WoW without a crash for a half an hour and then I quit (no noticeble FPS issues)
However just as I launched Frozen Throne...
Also I'm able to play etracer and Super tux for hours (and etracer is very taxing... I get worse FPS than WoW).

Re: Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

Could someone with notebook and the same GFX confirm this?

Re: Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

Could you test whether the same thing occurs in Windows (I could make use of my warranty if that is so...)
Also what's your system? Mine's Dell inspiron 1525 N.

Re: Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

The new intel driver is improvement (xf86-video-intel v.2.4).
I managed to play over an hour of Frozen Throne without crash or fps drop. Custom compiled driver with cflags for core2duo processor and libtool.
You shoud try it.
BTW I'm running x86-64 and using 32bit chroot (Also compiled a 32bit version of the driver in the chroot).

Re: Intel i965GL (x3100) hard locks.

With the xf86-video-intel 2.3.2, GM965 (or some variant of that one), I don't get locks playing nexuiz or openarena for at least one hour.

EDIT: on x86_64 of course.

EDIT2: it appears that I just confirmed something I should have read. Must be my incredible speed reading skills wink, so we've really only almost ruled out overheating.
