There hasn't been a "release" of FFmpeg for a very long time. Arch pulls in a version when there is a major feature needed for a popular software package.

If you are looking for a formal release, stop now, there are none. Maybe we will have some in the future, but don't hold your breath.

Well I was just wondering, since if It's pulled from git/svn, then it will get multithreading support soon.

Are you waiting for multithreaded decoding? That's one of those features that a lot of people will find useful. When it happens file an enhancement request in Flyspray.
