Just installing Archlinux on my laptop with Broadcom wirless

I've just arrived at 2.13 Configuring the network (if necessary) http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … reless_LAN and doing the http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_Setup guide.

Problem is that my laptop pavilion dv9074 has a bcm11 wireless chip that is a pain in the ass to get working. I get to the point where I do

iwconfig

and I get my wireless card showing as eth1. Try to do

ifconfig eth1 up

and i get the error saying SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory. After this I have no clue what to do.

As you probably understand I'm new with Linux and is clueless of how to go from here in order to get the wireless working. I could install the rest with wired internet, but i really want wireless working on my laptop from the start, because I only use wireless with it normally.

Any suggestions on how I could get it working? I read about another guy getting it to work with Ubuntu http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=272966 but I am not sure how to do this.

Re: Just installing Archlinux on my laptop with Broadcom wirless

you didn't install firmware. just follow the steps from here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_Setup#b43
the interface should be wlan0 but i think you are running an older kernel version < 2.6.26 and uses bcm4xx?

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: Just installing Archlinux on my laptop with Broadcom wirless

I have tried to get it working again but with no luck.

Switch on wired network, which by the way worked like a charm right off the box.

Did try to install the b43 drivers/firmware like you said. but when i come to number 5: Create /lib/firmware if you don't have and then Run

it says: Cannot open input file wl_apsta_mimo.o

And yes I'm running kernel 2.6.25 and dunno about using bcm4xx?

Maybe the best way to get it working is to install everything. And get KDE up and it will be easier installing wireless?
