Ok, so im trying to learn how to install packages from the aur and whenever i run makepkg -s it does not seem to create a .pkg.tar.gz file? I ran it as root once and it said it created the package but i cant seem to install it as it says its corrupt. any advice? Now im trying to run makepkg -s as me and its hung on connecting to a server.
Thanks in advance

LOL hey finferflu, I see your posts often... just seconds after realizing that i had long ago modified my makepkg.conf file to point to a different directory, i slapped myself on the head and screamed DUH loudly. got it working, the issue was a user error lol thanks in either case:)

Don't run makepkg as root. Install fakeroot and enable it in makepkg.conf.

hmm if he says yes hes "a stupid" and if he says no then he should not hang on arch forums.
hey i remember this from back when i went to grade school its the "homo in a cage trick" (i live in sweden and dont actually agree with the point of it),
if you say yes then your homosexual (kids are predjudiced) if you say no then the kid who asked the question screams " the homo has escaped", ie a lose lose situation.
also since this is solved and will probably just get worse i suggest a moderator to lock this thread

INCSlayer it is famous logic paradox.
One statement has to be accepted generalization that x is y. And using this you can always prove that z is x or that z is not y.
kensai from you avatar I can say that you are in your puberty years or maybe in early childhood.

Hmm, unless I'm mistaken, I think fakeroot is default behavior for makepkg.

For you, that doesn't seem to include answering forum posts given your current example of answering three months after the last post...
Don't bump old posts unless you are actually adding something.

as a dev/moderator you should really be more friendly, especially to new Arch users (like myself).
(and, there was no 'answer' needed, as the OP solved the problem himself - maybe you should be rude to him and claim that be didn't switch the thread to [solved])

Maybe, but I was doing my moderator job because...
there was no 'answer' needed, as the OP solved the problem himself
Thus, there was no need to post three months after the thread had finished. Post count bumping is bad and just creates noise for those trying to find new problems to fix.
