Re: reiser4 fs utils

I'll second that as well.  Now that it's stable I'm going to reformat my drive with it (may not be COMPLETELY stable, remember reiser3 at release? but I'm willing to be a guinea pig so to say).  So what I'd really like is to be able to format all my partitions reiser4 during install.

Re: reiser4 fs utils

The love-sources guys and myself have been guinea pigging for some time now, and Reiser4 is fairly problem free and stable.. not production quality yet though, and there are still areas that lack testing.

On the upside Hans Reiser says that if Reiser4 goes a week or so of testing in andrew mortons -mm tree without generating bugreports he will push it to Linus for mainline inclusion.

Re: reiser4 fs utils

here are two package builds you need minus the kernel patches.

pkgname=libaal
pkgver=1.0.1
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="libaal"
url="http://www.namesys.com"
source=(ftp://ftp.namesys.com/snapshots/LATEST/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
md5sums=('e0abfb9a5a34a8af86fd6e33de95af8c')

build() {
  cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
  ./configure --prefix=/usr
  make || return 1
  make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr install
}

pkgname=reiser4progs
pkgver=1.0.1
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Reiser4 filesystem programs"
url="http://www.namesys.com/v4/v4.html"
depends=('e2fsprogs' 'libaal')
source=(ftp://ftp.namesys.com/snapshots/LATEST/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)

build() {
  cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
  ./configure --prefix=/usr
  make || return 1
  make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr install
}

They work fine on my system but YMMV.

Re: reiser4 fs utils

Check out

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Reiser4FShowto

Everything worked great for me. Hopefully can help some people out. I'm very happy with the change and haven't noticed any bugs or quirks yet. Can d/l the packages from the following repo:

[fluxback]
http://www.fluxback.net/archlinux

Package names are libaal and reiser4progs.

Re: reiser4 fs utils

What about grub and reiserfs4? AFAIK it doesn't have support for it... I found patches that add r4 support to grub on google.

Re: reiser4 fs utils

I generally make my boot partitions ext2, and mount them read only..
Then use different fs types for my home and /

so, the grub issue would be a non issue with this setup... It only applies (I believe, someone correct me if i am wrong) if you want to use rieser4 on your boot partition.

My sources say that the reiser4 grub patch doesn't work entirely yet and isn't recommended by Namesys - I tried an earlier version when I was running Gentoo and that failed to reach stage2 (or 1.5 can't recall)

Re: reiser4 fs utils

I saw patch from 9th August, so it's quite "fresh" and may be good.

New patch for grub, as I wrote, quite fresh. Maybe someone could test it?
