How can I start LXDE?

Hi. I installed LXDE (group lxde in pacman). Installation without any problem, but I can't start lxde. It isn;t in session list in kdm. I tried launch startlxde, but nothing happens. I really don't know how to start lxde... KDE is slow, xfce or gnome isn't for me, e17 always crashing, all WM I hate, so I the last possibility for me is LXDE.
Thanks for help

Re: How can I start LXDE?

You could manually add a Sessiontype to kdm:

create a file named lxde.desktop in /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/sessions/ :

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
# The names/descriptions should really be better
Name=LXDE Session
Comment=Use this session to run LXDE as your desktop environment
Exec=startlxde
Icon=
Type=Application

make sure it has the same permissions as the other .desktop files int that directory.
Hope this helps.

Re: How can I start LXDE?

Good choice! You'll love it (hopefully tongue )
I always start LXDE via inittab. It doesn't really need a display manager, other than i.e. KDE it can handle reboot and shutdown etc. without kdm. Maybe there is a built-in display manager? Whatever, LXDE is really nice, not perfect, but really nice!

@cinan: you're welcome smile

@Army: If you start it in the inittab, how do you manage logon procedure? Am i getting something wrong? I dont use kdm either, I just do a startx right after login everytime to start awesome smile. Works great for me.

Re: How can I start LXDE?

I do it that way, so it the same as yours, but automated. I know this is a bit insecure, but I don't care about that tongue If you go into KDE that way, you can only end the current session, but shutdown and reboot don't work with this thing, that comes up, when you press ctrl+alt+remove (don't know how that thing is called)

Re: How can I start LXDE?

Ok, I get your point. Probably I'll try it myself later (the .bash_profile-way).

That KDE story... yeah, I experienced the same thing with gnome (and GDM). Oh yeah, it's called ctrl+alt+backspace (aka Strg+alt+Entf :-P)
