Install CD with kernel 2.6.26?

I'm want to install Arch x86-64 on a new computer which requires kernel >= 2.6.26 (Intel P45 chipset with ICH10R, SATA controller not supported by older kernels), and the Arch install CD's use kernel 2.6.25. My current plan is to put the new hard disk in my old computer, perform a minimal Arch install, upgrade it to get kernel 2.6.26, and move the hard disk to the new computer (the "old" computer is currently running Arch i686, but is x86_64 capable).

However, I'm also wondering if there's a test install CD I could download and use, or if there's an easy way to upgrade the kernel on the install CD image.

Try this special edition: http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page= … ed9ff40c16 It contains kernel-2.6.26.2

You could also grab the FTP install CD, which will grab the latest packages off of the Arch repos instead of the CD.

Re: Install CD with kernel 2.6.26?

@Pierre

The Froscon install CD worked great! I have Arch 64 installed and  running, now I just have to copy my data over...

@kclive18

I don't think the FTP install would work - my new motherboard has an Intel ICH10R south bridge, it's SATA controller is not supported by kernel's prior to 2.6.26, and I'm using a SATA hard disk and optical drive. I doubt the Arch 2008-06 install disk would even boot... But I'm curious now, so I think I'll try booting the 2008-06 disk and see what happens.

@kclive18

Much to my chagrin, the 2008-06 install CD booted just fine, and it could even mount my hard disk. So I guess that would've been enough for an FTP install. Perhaps it would've even completed a normal install successfully. ^shrugs^
