Glxgears returned very low FPS on X1600 ~2500FPS

Hi guys...

I've installed catalyst via wiki + some help from my friend to get it to work as the wiki wasn't really straightforward. I don't know what my friend did though, but I'm sure im using fglrx because fglrxinfo returned the following:

I'm not sure what is "normal", but I get around 1100 with my integrated intel card.

I have read thar glxgears is not a benchmark. You should try real games to test your card's performance.

As for your desktop feeling sluggish you could check if there is any process that's taking too much CPU (use the 'top' command in a terminal for example). That's the first thing I would do.

Uhm, your monitor probably refreshes around 60-75 times per second so 2500FPS is something like 33x overkill -- i.e. most of the frames don't even get displayed anyways.
Also, unless you're using Compiz desktop performance depends on your card's 2D not 3D capabilities.
If you are using Compiz then use it's Benchmark plugin instead of glxgears.

Yeah same here. I have a Geforce 8600 or was it 8500 and it can play Counter strike source fine (50-100FPS), but glxgears only gets 400 FPS.
