no video?

hello, I just installed Arch Linux, all is good so far except I cannot see movies - with any movie player. I hear sound, so I know they're playing, but I don't see the video output. In any player, any codec (avi, dvd, mpg, etc).

I don't think it's a codec or player issue.. did anybody encounter this? I remember encountering it once in debian but I don't remember how I fixed it - I think newer packages fixed it, unless I did something else. wink

Any ideas, or ways to look for the problem, etc?

thanks!

Patrix.

try running the applications through the commandline/terminal and see if there is any error output and if it gives you some clue great if not post it here.

well. It was simple. I simply had to uncomment the option "glx" in my xorg.conf file and now it all works. I'm pretty sure I remember the nvidia installer saying it should be commented out. I have video! WHEEE! smile

Re: no video?

May I ask what the 'glx' is for?

from what I can gather, it's some sort of opengl driver for Xwindow, or something like that.

Re: no video?

ok I reread the nvidia stuff and glx is required, it's dri and GLcore that must be removed wink

Re: no video?

seems I have to keep dri too, in the xorg.conf file, despite what the nvidia site says.
