xorg 6.7.99 Pre releases...

i have an xorg CVS HEAD pkg built from today, an di must say, composite and xcompmgr is beautiful! fading windows and drop shoadows is just grogeous, can't wait for this to stabilise, but it has stabilised much over teh past few days, 2 days ago it was unusable with KDE, now it's my default setup....

i'll maybe distribute the pkg if i can find server space.. until then you'll have to wait on... big_smile

Looking forward to it. It's a shame xfwm4.2 will not support all of the new features, guess I'll have to use metacity.

Re: xorg 6.7.99 Pre releases...

yeah, but you still need to checkout the cvs anyway... i do this manually then ar it up as xc.tar.gz and use that as src in pkgbuild....

sad xfwm wont support the features?  What wms will?

And what other WMs work with xfce4?

Re: xorg 6.7.99 Pre releases...

Metacity works with it. The thing is XFce 4.2 got into the feature-freeze state yesterday, so it won't be in it. Also as I understood most of the XFce devs are still using XFree86. I guess, or better yet hope, that we will at least have some sort of a patch released to support it. I guess it's better to start flooding the mailing list now wink

PKGBUILD is just xorg with a tiny mod (add a rm-rf 2nd to last line deleting a symlink) and uses a tarballed cvs checkout....

I tried that and got compile issues, so your tested version would be nice... maybe I just got unlucky with my checkout, but X takes an hour to compile, a binary would be nice.

I compiled a CVS verison using a modfied PKGBUILD, I'd upload the binary but have no space to do so.

maybe use incoming, but label it xorg-devel or something like that - might not sit well with the developers though.

Anything that isn't to be considered for inclusion in the Big Three repos should not be uploaded to incoming, as a rule.  At the same time, incoming so sort of in disarray at this point.

Re: xorg 6.7.99 Pre releases...

mmm, I compiled xorg with my own PKGBUILD without the: "echo $'#define BuildComposite YESn' >>config/cf/host.def", trying yours now cos if I activate all that eyecandy (shadows and all that stuff) it is very unstable...

Re: xorg 6.7.99 Pre releases...

When you use xcompmgr pick either -c or -s but not both, c is for client-side shadows, and s is server side. C I think is a bit more stabler but I don't know for sure, -n I don't know what that does so someone could help that would be great.

Make sure to enable RenderAccel too it makes it a whole lot quicker.
