i just did a recent upgrade to 3.3, and now when i start up kde i get a popup with an error message saying:
Coult not start process Unable to create io-slave
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'file'.
i've tried deleting my .kde and .kderc directories in my home directory. tried a reboot too. and i still get the same error.
the run command doesn't work either cuz it seems like all the paths don't carry over or something.

I had the same problem on gentoo when I had compilled kde... I was searching for help everywhere... on gentoo forums, on bugs.kde.org etc.
Problem is not solved. I think it's caused by my broken ram memory...

checked .ICEauthority, the user has rw permissions and is owned by the user.
kde works as root however, so something's fishy around here...

check your permission on tmp dir
/tmp /var/tmp

/tmp /var/tmp
both are 777ed, doesn't work
the ksocket-user or whatever the filename is under /var/tmp is owned by the user with rw permissions
