GDM latest version???

I saw some discussion here on the forum about latest GDM stable version 2.22 and that it was not officialy released. I looked at the GDM official site and it's true that it says that latest stable is 2.20.x and latest unstable 2.21.x which is adevelopment branch of 2.22.x. But today I searched something about GDM, and it seems that 2.22.0 was released silently several months ago in May.
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/ … 2.0.tar.gz

GDM 2.22 is complete rewrite of GDM, that is why it was unstable and unfinished for release with GNOME 2.22. I am not sure how stable is GDM 2.22, but there are some regresions from GDM 2.20 like with every complete rewrite (look at KDE 4.x). The work has even started on 2.23.x development branch for 2.24.x.

The latest version of GDM in Arch repository is 2.20.1, the latest version of 2.20.x branch is 2.20.7. There is a 2.22.0 stable version silently released, with possible regressions, but if we can have KDE 4 with lot of regresions maybe we can have GDM 2.22.0 too (Fedora is already using it) smile

Maybe we need some update of GDM.

Yes, but it's crippled - no reason I can see to want it until the gdm rewrite is complete.

I know that it has some regression, especially about the configuration.

At least we can get an update to a stable 2.20.7, it has some nice fixes over 2.20.1 from the repositories.

Re: GDM latest version???

This is something ABS is perfect for, upgrading to newer versions of packages than are in the repos:  http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ABS.

Oh, and hi SnapShot!  Welcome to Arch!

Re: GDM latest version???

Well, I know about ABS, but ABS is lower on my TODO list for Arch, pacman and AUR are keeping me busy for now. That is why I would like new version in pacman repositories. Also I think it will benefit most of the users, because between 2.20.1 and 2.20.7 there are some nice fixes, like:

* Fix leaks.
* Fix regression in GDM 2.20 that caused HaltCommand, SuspendCommand, and RebootCommand to not get updated properly when modified from gdmsetup.
* Fix Suspend configuration option so it works.
* etc.

Tnanks for the kind words.

Re: GDM latest version???

ABS is the same as AUR. the only difference is the metod to download build smile. just use "abs" and it will pull the hole builds from core,extra and community in /var/abs/.

about gdm. if you need it build it. i'm sick of people complaining about out of date packages. is funny that only the new ones complain smile

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
