Did I break my MP3-player?

Hi!

I've been using my MP3-player as an USB-stick numerous times and thought I could as well use it for the Arch Linux USB installation...
but as I did the dd if=...img of=/dev/sdb thingy I think I broke it sad Now I can't access it with fdisk as there's no /dev/sdb anymore yikes
The player is a Creative ZEN Stone 1GB... Is there anything I could do to recover it? Im using Arch Linux my self...

Thank you in advance

Re: Did I break my MP3-player?

Maybe it is connected with this problem: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=52881

I am still a Linux newbie, so I may be wrong though smile.

Some applications are WYSIWYG, and some are WYSIWTF.

Re: Did I break my MP3-player?

Search for firmware upgrade or firmware binaries. I doubt you'll find any for linux, but if you have a windows installation you can use it to reflash it. If you don't find them, ask the company if they have any firmware reflashing tools, and if not, you may have to send it in to be fixed.
That is, if it isn't something else causing the problem.

i do believe this would require a MS machine although you could try wine

Re: Did I break my MP3-player?

I had a similar problem with a Creative Zen, and the only solution was to reflash the firmware in Windows. I didn't try the wine option, so I don't know about that.
