+1 for corsair. They are fairly silent, good over all (altho ripple on the +5v could be better) and the deliver what they promise. Alot of cheap psu's don't deliver anywhere near the power that they are rated for. (and get's realy unstable when you are loading them 70%++)
A psu is arguably the most important piece in your computer, and the last place where you should try to save money, since a bad psu can kill all the other hardware in the computer.

Raccoon1400 wrote:On newegg.com, is there a specific PSU that anyone would recommend? I have ATX, 2 HDs, 2 CDs, and a fan, and need the P4 connector. The wires need to be long enough to accomodate for a large case. I want an affordable but decent one.
Corsairs PSUs are always a safe bet, and I recommend Corsair 450W. It is of very good quality and very silent, and quite cheap for what you are getting. If you want something cheaper I can also recommend FSP 350W. It's not particulary efficient and not very silent either, but it's very cheap and of decent quality unlike most of the PSUs in that pricerange.
I forgot to mention I need a floppy drive connector. The FSP has that, but not the Cosair.
My old supply had
Main 20 pin connector
White connector for older motherboard, says P2 on it
P4 connector
6 4 pin connectors
2 floppy cables
FSP300-60BTV
from the PSU to end of cables is about 21 inches.

I've always been skeptical of buying "off" brands like seasonic & I'm not sure aboutthe sparkle. When they first came out I heard a lot of negatives about them. I have always found Antec to offer fantastic PSUs. For Example, I'm using an Antec Tru430 in my current setup. I built the system over 5 years ago when the AMD64 proc first came out. It has NEVER given me a problem. and is relatively quiet.
Here's my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Gigabyte K8T800 MOBO
1GB OCZ Performance Ram
ATI x1650 (requires 350W+)
2 WD SATA HD (Raptor 37GB, 120GB)
1 Seagate ATA HD
NEC DVDRW 16x
Lite-On 52x CDRW
Floppy
3 case fans
So, as you can see it has been powering a lot of parts w/o a hiccup for many years.

Edit: Is newegg for US only? I'm in Canada.
Edit 2: Newegg is not yet for canada but a canadian site will be ready by the end of the year.
I will pick something on newegg then order from elsewhere.

Sparkle is made by Fortron (FSP).
Second, Seasonic is not an off brand and third, Antec PSU's are simply OEM models of Seasonic, Enhance and FSP manufacture.
...Antec has used a number of OEM providers for their power supplies including HEC, CWT, FSP, Enhance, and recently Seasonic. Some of the older Antec/CWT solutions were notorious for being plagued by the "Fuhjiyyu sudden death syndrome," but in the last year or so Antec has dropped these older designs in favor of new products from FSP (Basiq), Seasonic (TP3, NeoHE, EarthWatts), and Enhance (Quattro).
Again, the best of the best is PCP&C.
Seasonic are very good.
Fortron (FSP)/Sparkle/Antec-basiq are very good and offer excellent value. (bang for buck)
Here is an excellent buyers' guide and how-to, which mentions the above brands, and some others.

What about the antec earthwatts I mentioned in a recent post?
(bang for buck)
PS. BANG, is something I could do without in a PSU. It's because of that that I need a new one.

See my post above; The EarthWatts series is manufactured by SeaSonic.

Sorry for the late answer, but the Corsair PSU does have a floppy drive connector. In fact, it has two. On Corsairs product page you can see what kind of connector the PSU has. It even has pictures

I didn't see one, but the antec seems to better fit my needs. Thanks for the advice.
