For displaying text files on your desktop check out root-tail or xosd (osd_cat), usually used for log files, but could serve for this purpose (and may be more suited than conky).
You need to install an RTFM interface.

root-tail would do the trick very console like [nothing wrong with that!] conky should be ok .... if I can tame it :-)

Ok so I added the following to .conkyrc
${head /home/mrgreen/tasks.txt 30 20}when run I got
Conky: head logfile does not exist, or you do not have correct permissionspath is right file name is right

I got it working. Double check the path thoroughly, it also gave me problems..and try the 777 trick. Conky will update the display as you put more text into the file ![]()
