hello again!,
I have a Plantronics USB Audio Headset/Microphone, and I use ALSA (under Gnome).
My sound (I/O) works with a few media applications (VLC, Audacity), but not with many others (MPlayer, Firefox/Opera, games).
I have found several threads suggesting the "asoundconf" solution, but let me assure you that it is a script written by Canonical programmers for Ubuntu - and it does NOT work well under Arch (it bugs out, probably missing some Ubuntu-dependent libraries or whatsit).
I suppose my main problem is "no sound with Flash in Firefox". I've tried the libflashsupport package, but it doesn't seem to help.
Are there any fixes you guys know about?
thanks

I don't know of what help this will be, but thanks - it's something to work with.
This is the error message I get when I try to configure my sound;
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback.

I have a Plantronics USB headset / microphone too, and I have some basic questions:
- How can I instruct Flash applications (under SeaMonkey) to play and record audio from this USB device ?
- How can I instruct Amarok to play audio to this device?
I have selected "Plantronics Headset (USB Audio) as my preferred audio device, using KDE's "Sound System Configuration" panel (System Settings -> Sound), but it did't seem to work.
What should I do?

Maybe this will help. I'm using Creative usb soundcard, and I couldd't turn off internal soundcard of my notebook in BIOS and make usb card as default, what makes getting the same errors . So, I've added these lines in /etc/modprobe.conf:
options snd_usb_audio index=0
options snd_hda_intel index=1
I don't know which module are yuo using for your usb soundcard, so if it's differents replace snd_usb_audio with right one and restart.
Note: in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf you have to enable this section, if it's not already done:
FILES="/etc/modprobe.conf" and then mkinitcpio -p kernel-26
Hope it'l work for you.

Hi Jefe.
Since I just want to use my headset for a moment or so, I don't think your suggestion is the best way to solve my problem.
But thanks anyway for your suggestion!
Best regards,
Elifarley
