I'm going to install it tomorrow (10.46PM right now, I have to wake up at 6.00AM and I want to sleep a bit sad ).

BSD license! Amazing! Anyone can do anything with it. I think I now love Google. I really like their little comic which goes into "technical details" light enough to make it easily readable. Now to port vimperator's functionality...

Re: Google Chrome

Can't get the svn to build since after checkout there is no /src/chrome dir to be found...  I'll try later.

Re: Google Chrome

I always wondered why java applets don't run in a separate thread. I always hated that a java applet like a movie in wikipedia, hangs the browser while it's loading. I hope google's multithreaded innovation (albeit a very straightforward innovation) will also be implemented by other browsers in future versions.

I haven't tried building it; they say it doesn't amount to anything usable. What's the difference between "chromium" and "the chrome browser"?

Chromium is the name of the project, Google Chrome is the product it produces, I think.

chromium is just the unbranded name for the code.

A problem - radio buttons are invisible for me. Not the quantity of problems I would expect, though... smile

Re: Google Chrome

I get an awesome error when I try to run this:

chrome.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Anyone else this? At least I get to see the sad tab!

Unfortunately, it's 32-bit only at the moment sad
I wonder how long it'll take for a bin32-chrome package to appear in the AUR, after the beta appears lol

This is not chrome, it doesn't build chrome, it builds some chromium apps, which chrome is based on.

Re: Google Chrome

I have this paranoid thought cruising in my mind. Google Chrome in itself is not spyware. Google Chrome is a smart bomb, that will set off a chain reaction that will finally blow Microsoft out of the water. Microsoft is Googles closest adversary when it comes to power over computer use. Google pays cash to firefox for having their search bar as default in the browser, but they are also interested in shattering the market share of microsoft. What will this ever-increasingly dominance of google lead to?

Re: Google Chrome

World Domination?

Google will one day take over the web/electronic market. Or it will fall and burn to death.

Re: Google Chrome

From their Linux page:

Note: If you want to use a Chromium-based browser on Linux, you should look elsewhere. Although many Chromium submodules build under Linux and a few unit tests pass, all that runs is a command-line "all tests pass" executable.

I guess we shouldn't expect much for now.

It will lead to google getting bigger and bigger and then realizing that the market isn't what it used to be as some college kids come out with something totally new and different. Then google will have to reinvent themselves to keep up and ensure they can keep a certain amount of market share, but they will never be a dominant force. The story of every corporation... HP radios, IBM Mainframes, Sun, Microsoft, Yahoo, and one day, Google.

Re: Google Chrome

I am just waiting for them to integrate Google web history and bookmarks into their browser, as in the browser uses Google web history. I use it way too much to be needing for it to be not integrated into my browser, all my bookmarks are in Google bookmarks (i use some extension that puts a menu next to help menu to access Google bookmarks, but nothing for the web history so far).

As I said before, that is not chrome, is chromium, and is not even a full browser, just some applications.
