Firefox (Gran Paradiso) - need to start over

I was poking around files looking for a Firefox bookmark file and I've messed it up. The forward and back buttons are greyed out and are unusable, I won't load a homepage or remeber one when I change it and my bookmarks are gone. I would like to remove it and all the configuration files and start over. I tried to  -Rs firefox and reinstall but that didn't work; neither did running in safe mode and resetting the toolbar, etc. The only file that I opened when poking around was /usr/share/applications/Firefox with mousepad in XFCE.

Please help me get out of this mess. Thank you.

Your firefox config directory is in ~/.mozilla/firefox

Deleting the files in there worked. I logged in as root before deleting them and firefox was OK so it was something in my config files.  Thank you
