I don't know why, but I haven't found a single way to make spell check to work in openoffice-base-beta or devel. Is there something I'm missing, I know the new things are the extensions, but there is no extension for english spell check.
kensai, read through my rather ugly post on this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=38541 It's the last one -- #24. I have functioning spell check on OOb3.

both. the devel and the beta pkg have --enable-gio\ included. it's the replacement for former gnome-vfs. maybe you need gvfs installed to make use of gio.
I have both gvfs and gnome-vfs installed. gnumeric can open and save files on an SMB share, OOo3 abends when I try and open a file on the same share.
and no. i'm already offering 3 branches of OOo for 2 architectures. that's enough for me. use ABS to customize the build if you want.
Fair enough :-) (unfortunately way beyond my skills at this time).

Arch i686 current - Sun Java - openbox - Ooo beta3 from extra. I put the export-command in my autostart.sh.
The symptom: upon starting swriter, it tries to recover a non-existent document and gets stuck in an endless loop trying to recover that document.

OOO300_m5 in the repos. This is Release candidate1 - so last changes for testing packaging issues.

Failed to execute child process "openoffice.org3" (No such file or directory)
That happens when trying to launch writer and other apps, the only bin working now is soffice-beta, is openoffice now intended to launch from soffice-beta only?

I can start /opt/openoffice-beta/program/swriter - no problem here. How do you start it?

Oh, ok, I see now, is that I use the menu item on the gnome menu, and it wasn't created this time. The new beta does not create the .desktop for it I guess. Instead there is the old broken .desktop that wasn't removed.

Ahh that would explain why, I am on x86_64.

I fixed the menu entries. Now we ship all built dictionaries and deploy them systemwide while installing the package. So for most common languages the dicts should be ready to use.
Please test and give feedback. Another RC will probably follow. Some serious bugs have already been found (upstream). So expect rc2 not far away. Maybe I will start packaging langpacks then.

Great job, I appreciate your efforts with this beast of a package. The only icon that is not present and the entry in the menu is the old one is for ooo writer, all others perfectly work. But swriter still have the old issue.

can't cofirm any missing menu entry now. work on my x86_64 desktop and my gf's system with i686. "OpenOffice Beta writer" starts well here from menu.

Confirmed menus not working on 64 bit. I completely removed the last installation, that may have something to do with it. 'soffice-beta' still launches the main GUI menu. Oddly, 'soffice-beta --help' launches Writer.
--EDIT--
I spoke too soon. The launchers are trying to launch 'openoffice.org --writer' etc. As well, the icon listings are bad. The desktop files are messed up:
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Terminal=false
Icon=beta-openofficeorg3-writer
Type=Application
Categories=Office;X-Red-Hat-Base;X-SuSE-Core-Office;X-MandrivaLinux-Office-Wordprocessors;
Exec=openoffice.org3 -writer
...

Do you both have also the devel version installed? What's wrong? The Icon= entry or the Exec= entry? It's still working fine on my system. Maybe I mixed something up in the "beta"izing the pkg part. Please point me, where I'm wrong in the PKGBUILD. Stupid OOo devs have renamed some paths+names from last snapshot to RC1 :S
Anyway most of that shouldn't be a problem when packaging this without the "beta" renaming.

open office still hangs if you hover over the file menu...
