Hey there,
i am using arch on a macbook now but what always bothers me is that nasty sound the cddrive does when i insert a cd / dvd.

i already found out that there are several tools for kde and gnome to slow the drive down - but iam searching for something which can be done withouth any xserver.

Re: how can i slow down my cdrom

eject -X /dev/yourdevicehere

lists supported speeds and

eject -x N /dev/yourdevicehere

sets speed N for your drive

For dvd playing, mplayer can do the same with the "-dvd-speed" option
