Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

No it's not, it's exactly what google said from day one of the news about Chrome so I fail to see how this is thread worthy.

Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

Shouldn't we actually be able to see the progress through the svn? That way, we can estimate ourselves when it's ready, and actually predict some values of the end browser for linux...

Thanks for pointing this, but I already knew. I'm asking how that this is exactly exciting. I mean, past Google software for Linux is a shame to say the less (Picasa running under Wine? ouch).

Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

Picasa was bought by Google, and is a closed-source application, so that situation is a little different than Chrome's.

As a side note, I've been testing Chrome on Vista and I personally like it. I will definitely run it on Arch once it is available.

Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

According to some people (listen to today's episode of Buzz Out Loud for more info), Chrome installs a plugin into firefox that sends the URL of every link you click on back to Google. Also, you can't "opt-out" and supposedly, there's no way to delete or disable the plugin that doesn't bork Chrome.

I think this is prolly the WORST evil, data-mining thing Google has done.

Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

Actually, it IS opt-out. I had the option to install it during Chrome installation. Said no. So it doesn't install it.

The current license is BSD, what is wrong with that?

That's the license for the source, the eula is somewhat more spicy than the bsd...

Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

the TOS was revised after concerns where raised about IP rights. Section 11. was amended to give all IP rights to those who originally created/submitted work.

Google.com or any other search engine is your friend.

Re: Chrome Being Polished for Mac and Linux

Since the code is GPL, you don't have to agree with the EULA as long as you compile it yourself (or an Archlinux packager does it for you).

oh, if this is your only concern about chrome you should use vista wink

edit: i use vista for gaming after my xp-cd died so please no discussion about vista.

i think there are more things to think about chrome than ...mouse gestures...

koch, you are german, we germans are usually a bit more worried about data-protection than others (at least that's how it seems to be to me).
