I have set up a fresh Arch 64-bit install on my new system, so I've given in and installed KDE 4. It's taking some getting used to, but I've finally got it configured to my liking (took me ages to disable the bloody bouncing icon cursor - they should've scrapped that annoying thing).
But I am impotent without the two most vital features which are missing from KDE 4!
Quick launch icons: I usually have about 10 of these for my most-used applications. I can't believe they missed this. It takes me 5-20 seconds to launch a program from the menu instead of 1/2 second from the quick launch icon.
Command box: Text box to type shell commands (for app launching), which I use instead of the menu, since it's much quicker to type the program name than a hunt and click adventure.

You can add applications to the "favorites" which is the equivalent of a "quick launch".

The command box works just the same as it did before (but it seems you have to wait until 4.2 to get a persistant history): ALT-F2

But do I have to click on the menu to access the favourites?

You can right-click on the icon in the kmenu and add it to the panel or drag it to the desktop.

Thanks, that seems to work. It wasn't obvious...

Had a problem figuring it out myself :-)

History: rmb on the text input field, and select 'dropdown & automatic' and it'll work just like in KDE 3.5.x. This is possible in all single-line text input fields in KDE, btw, it's a KDElibs feature. Dolphin doesn't remember the setting, though, I filed a bug for that.

Ahh, I didn't know about ALT+F2. I was thinking about the command box which sits in your panel.

Hmmm, haven't seen such a plasmoid yet. I suppose it would be rather trivial to write, so it might come soon ;-)
