cannot execute binary file

Hi!

Since the past 2-3 days im getting the following error on a lot of files:

/usr/bin/makepkg: line 765: /usr/bin/strip: cannot execute binary file

I also get it on /usr/bin/as

I think virtualbox_bin from AUR isnt compiling a kernel module cause of this. Does anyone have any clue?

Re: cannot execute binary file

Hi,
both files belong to binutils. I am not sure, if there was an update in the last few days, have been on holiday for some time.
If this is a general problem with binutils, this error should occur also with /usr/bin/ld and /usr/bin/nm (and some more others).

Have you checked the permissions?

$ ls -l /usr/bin/makepkg
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 44574 Aug 27 08:47 /usr/bin/makepkg

Probably reininstall binutils with pacman -Sy binutils

Re: cannot execute binary file

Thanks a LOT!! It WAS a problem with binutils! It was giving file conflict errors when i tried to reinstall, but then a force install did the trick! Thanks a lot once again! smile
