KDE 4 Log out problems

In KDE 4, nothing happens when I click "Shut Down" or "Restart". When I click "Log out" I just get a black screen, I cannot get to the console, CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE does not kill X, so the only way out is CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Re: KDE 4 Log out problems

Edit /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and set TerminateServer  to true. And of course uncomment the line by removing the leading "#". smile

I hope this helps you. Have a nice evening!

Re: KDE 4 Log out problems

Thanks, Log out now works, but Shutdown and Restart still don't work.

Re: KDE 4 Log out problems

Look if you have these lines in /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc :

...
[Shutdown]
BootManager=Grub
HaltCmd=/sbin/halt
RebootCmd=/sbin/reboot
...
[X-:*-Core]
AllowShutdown=All
...

Re: KDE 4 Log out problems

Is 'kdm' on the daemon list in '/etc/rc.conf'? If it is, try to remove it and edit this in '/etc/inittab':

Comment in below the "Boot to console" line, and remove comment below the "Boot to X11" line. Then at the bottom of the file, comment in on the 'xdm' line and remove comment from the 'kdm' line. Reboot afterwards (use the reboot command in the console since you can't reboot using the normal way).

I hope it works. I had a similar problem and this solved it.
