Hey all, I'm using Fluxbox and I need a simple and fast file manager and image viewer. Which file manager and image viewer do you guys recommend? Also, which icon theme?

pcmanfm is a nice file manager

I don't really use a file manager other than the command line, but for images GIMV works really well.

What about thunar and gthumb?
If you like them, use them
Or look at this thread: The Best Light and Fast Applications

I don't really use a file manager regularly but I like rox and xfe, as for the image viewer I love gqview.

Just use PcManFM as the file manager and Mirage as the image viewer

At the moment,
FM: PCManFM (it detects modification noticeably faster with gamin compared to thunar)
IV: Mirage

I don't use a file manager (command line for me), but if I did it'd probably be PCmanFM or emelfm2. For image viewing I definitely recommend feh -- tiny, fast as a bullet and with all sorts of options. It's controlled fully with the keyboard, which is a plus for me, also quite friendly with the CLI.

Thought I could give some input.
*Thunar have massrenaming as a plugin.
*But pcmanfm on the other hand have tabbed windows (like firefox). And that is something that you cant live without if you are going with a gui.
* The third option you have is going with a twopane filemanager, like emelfm.

haxit said it best...
PCManFM + Feh
they are both lightweight (low on resources, about 1.5mb install size).
pcmanfm has tabs and an option to open folder as root.
feh is very versatile and can set wallpaper too.

I also use in 99% of cases just coreutils.
But sometimes a file manager is necessary...never tried to open a file that starts with hiragana/katakana/kanji chars?
mc, thunar or else, sometimes coreutils/bash are just not enough....don't you think?

Personally I use both Thunar and Midnight Commander, depending on the task. I find Thunar better for renaming a large amount of files that share part of a name, such as episodes of a series.
Example: SG-1-s01-ep01-ChildrenOfTheGods.avi.
I copy the 'SG-1-s01-ep' part so that I can paste it and not have to type the whole name for every file. If Midnight Commander can do that I don't know how...
On the other hand since Midnight Commander is dual pane it is much, much nicer to move files with. And I find it better for almost every aspect except naming. Plus it looks nice and tidy (I have mine transparent with urxvt).
For an image viewer I use both Mirage and feh. Mirage I find to be more usefull overall, but there isn't anything wrong with feh either. If you use Fluxbox you need a background setter anyway, and feh works great for that.
If you happen to want a bit heavier image viewer you could try ShowIMG.

Nautilus and GIMP or Thunar and Ristretto.
I used to use, but stopped liking PCManFM, because I had a lot of files with forign characters in their names, and PCManFM killed all of them when I was moving. Then I read later about that bug on the web site, and I was like:

That was a very bad bug!

I use mc, I like it a lot. I have two instances running at the same time always.
Image viewers: feh and gliv. Feh does some weird things that I don't like, but it's really powerful.
And I also use thunar. Maximum zoom in thumbnail mode is ideal for sorting images, when you don't want to set up feh again with 10 --actions.
