[SOLVED] Household Inventory Database?

Does anyone know of any software for Linux that provides some sort of household inventory database?
I would like some way to catalog all of my computers and other serial numbered electronics.
Of course I could just make up an OOo Base database and put it in there... but is there anything already out there for this purpose?

Thanks!

You could check http://sourceforge.net/. I'm sure there is something like that out there... On the other hand a selfmade Database is much more fun! (Well, and will fit your needs exactly). If you found something interessting, let us know. Hope this Helps.

What sort of querying would you be doing? For something small-scale like household items, a text file and grep (or Ctrl-F, if that's more your thing) can be all you need.

I doubt I would have to do much querying. However, it would be nice if I could include photos with the item description and serial and everything else.

Not open source, or for Linux (mac??). But It looks like exactly what you want. Maybe good for ideas if you start your own.

Re: [SOLVED] Household Inventory Database?

I don't know if you would be interested in it, but Tellico does pretty much whatever you want it to.  It is a 'collection manager' and has presets for books, dvds, wines, and some other stuff, but you can also make your own collection.  You can change the names of the fields and take some out even.  I  looked and looked for a program to keep track of the food in my kitchen (not just stuff krecipes or gourmet could do) and finally gave up.  I currently use tellico for movies, books, and the food ingredients my daughter is allergic to (looong list).  I don't see why it couldn't do what you want as well.  It's part of KDE, but you only have to install qt and kdelibs to get it to work, thankfully! Oh yah, and i'ts free :-)

Here's Tellico:

http://periapsis.org/tellico/

Funny thing is way down the left side of the site it has a listing of many other alternatives using QT and GTK if Tellico isn't exactly what you need

Re: [SOLVED] Household Inventory Database?

Thanks for the link z0phi3l
I found "stuffkeeper" in the list of alternatives. It lets me define different types of things to catalog and I can add pictures.
Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

Re: [SOLVED] Household Inventory Database?

Make an SQL database and an application to interact with it.
You learn something that way, so it has to be the best choice smile
