error with gzopen64

Hi I just installed arch and when ever I try a few specific apps I get the following error

/usr/bin/gconftool-2: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64

The error occurs in
1> starting openbox (fluxbox works fine)
2>Installing Brasero OR gthumb OR gtk-theme-switch2 etc

I am fairly new to linux(few months) and absolutely new to Arch(few hours) so please be patient and descriptive

Is your system fully up to date? (pacman -Syu)

Doing it now.
May take some time (slow connection).

Yeah, upgrading zlib will solve your problem but it is best to update the entire system.
