no terminal in X

Whenever I open konsole, mrxvt, Terminal, or whatever, I get a blank window, without any bash prompt. Anybody had similar problems? This is a new install from within another linux to try kdemod-4. But without terminal, it is not fun.

Thanks

Re: no terminal in X

Can you type in it?  Does your ~/.bashrc have a PS1= declaration?  It should look something like this:

PS1='[\u@\h \W]\$ '

You did an install from within another Linux? I'm just guessing but I would think that must have something to do with it, since I have never seen that with a normal Arch install.

Is /dev/pts mounted? Check with mount. If not, add

none                    /dev/pts      devpts    defaults           0       0

to your /etc/fstab.

I assumed he meant he is using virtualization, such as VirtualBox or VMware, but if you're right then yes I'd say that explains a lot smile
