xorg crashing in intel DRI on x86_64 [REUNSOLVED]

Hello fellow archers,

I'm setting up a new Arch workstation on an intel motherboard with G33 chipset and quad core 64 bit processor.

The G33 has intel open source graphics accelerator support, which was the reason for choosing it.

Whenever I leave X running for any length of time the xorg server crashes with this error in /var/log/Xorg.0.log :

I've been working on this and I've made a little headway:

I had a libgl from an nvidia-utils package that had been installed on my old system.

I had to pacman -Rc nvidia-utils which removed 75 packages from the system 8-(

I captured the package names and re-added them with pacman -S `cat file-of-pkg-names'
at the end of the list I noticed that the package libgl was included by pacman as a dependency.

So I think a good part of the problem was the nvidia driver providing an invalid libgl.

glxinfo then indicated "permission denied" when trying to open /dev/drm/

I discovered i had to add myself to the "video" group: (as root) gpasswd -a myuser video

Now DRI is enabled and I'm waiting to see if the server will stay alive.

However I notice something in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log that seems suspicious:

(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/i915_dri.so

I believe the G33 chipset falls into the i965 category. and there is a /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/i965_dri.so

Does anyone know how to get AIGLX to use this DRI driver?

The way I've read it, the G33 falls into the i915 category. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA
Basically the G33 uses the GMA 3100, which is very similar to the GMA3000 and belongs to the "i915" family.
Starting from GMA X3000 which has a substantial redesign, it will use the i965 module...

You have to thank the Intel Marketing department for the confusing naming scheme.

nvidia provides its own libgl, the intel driver depends on the one provide by mesa.

The server seems to be up and running now (at least it hasn't crashed yet 8-)

On ripping "certain" CDs it completely crashes the system, X screen lockup, poweroff required.
