Hi all,
Yesterday my hard drive died, so I got a new one and have just finished reinstalling arch on the brand new disk. The only problem is, the new hard drive makes weird noises when inactive.
Other than that, the new hdd seems to work perfectly. The output of smartclt is all normal. I thought it might be related to power management, so I tried to disable it:
hdparm -B255 /dev/sda
but to no avail. Any ideas? I wouldn't want to wreck my new drive because of a bad configuration!!
EDIT: i solved this by setting -B 254 instead of 255. Apparently this changes a big deal on some hard drives.
