I just got arch running today and am trying to figure out how to use it. I got it because a relative persuaded me and I wanted to learn more about the command line. I am pretty new to command line and thought if I got Arch I would have to force myself to learn it fast. After what I read about it I knew it would be worth it.Previously using Ubuntu

Hi

Have been using arch for a while now after knoppix, ubuntu, fedora and pclinuxOS. Chose arch for the rolling release and only having what I choose installed. Dual booting with XP, but that broke 2 weeks ago and I havn't bothered to fix it, now I'm considering ditching it completly!

I moved from ubuntu to arch because some of my friends told its cool and i tested it.. nice, fast and pretty simple.

I finished the instalation of Arch yesterday at night, now today ive installed Xorg system and GNOME and I like it.

Im having some difficulties on changing the keyboard layout (from US to PT) and few strange issues but I guess it they will be simple to be resolved.

A ping from China

Just discovered Arch and likes it. Currently I'm running a virtual ArchLinux server in a Fedora box. I'll free it from the virtual machine after a hardware upgrade.

Hi,

I am using Linux since Sep 2004 starting with Mandrakelinux 9.1. This was tailor made distribution on CDs with HP logo supplied with HP COMPAQ Presario 2500 Laptop. No OS was installed on the Laptop and I could easily install from CDs.

I switched to Ubuntu since version 5.04.

Ubuntuforums is such a nice community which discusses and supports all Linux distributions in Other OS Talk. I learned about the virtues of Archlinux on Ubuntuforums.

I have installed it and love it.

If the ati driver problem for external monitor is resolved I would love it more.

Can't really explain why it took me so long to find Arch - been using Linux for a decade - but now I'm here, I reckon I'll be staying for quite a while. I was growing tired of all the distro-hopping anyway. I plan on kicking back and taking my time to learn the Arch way. So far it runs like a dream on my humble machine, so much so that I'm strongly considering installing it on my laptop too. Anyway, I've already tried to contribute a bit to the community with a posting in the multimedia section, and if I learn anything else useful, I'll post when I can. Thanks for all the great work guys.

Hello,

After using Slackware for 4 à 5 years i finally got borred with it, the only reason; package-management. Now that's about 2,5 years ago, then I started searching for a worthy replacement, first ofcourse started looking at som slackware derivates as Vector, Zenwalk and ofcourse rubixlinux. The latest put me on track with pacman and i liked it very much, easy to use and still not limiting you in what you can and will do.
Then when i was using it, i found out about the originator of pacman, Archlinux. So of course i tried it out, and it became the best experience and most Slackware like feeling i've had in a long time, fast and stable.

So in my first message I would like to thank everyone who commited time in this project and express my hope it will last forever.

Hello all!

New arch user here (less than a week of arch so far).

Never could bring myself to switch from windows before I found arch, Although I have been "trying" linux for 4-5 years. Its the only distro I found where I can do what I want. (What I really mean here is that Pacman Absolutely rocks!) I like too the transparent config Arch has. Two of the main attarctions for me.

I was really impressed by the wireless support too, I certainly didn't expect to make it work this painlessly. (I have 3y old vets of ubuntu/debian who have the same hardware I have and still can't get a reliable wireless connection on our uni networks. It took all of 6 lines in a conf script to get mine working...what are they doing wrong?)

And also the arch wiki is AMAZING! its by far the best resource I've come across for any distro. If any contributors read this: awesome job guys (and gals too). Exactly what you need to make progress when stuck. having never done anything else but installed and ignored other distros, Arch just makes sense for me, and I've finally replaced xp on my laptop.

And to boot these forums seem to have a really high signal to noise ratio from what I've seen already.

New Arch user here. Been toying with Linux for the better part of the last 6 or so years and finally decided to get serious about it as a primary desktop. Right now I would say I'm at about 20% usage, mainly because I'm going back to school and most classes I'm taking so far require Office 2007 or are based in Windows. My quake 3 machine (only game worth playing ;p) runs windows though and probably always will.

Anyway, this last venture into Linux full-time has just clicked for some reason making the transition even smoother. 2 years ago Arch Linux would have been too complicated for me forcing a frustrated quit back to Windows but I'm really liking the manual configuration requirement and all the documentation and support when I get stuck.

That being said I haven't bothered with getting my wireless card to work yet, which was quite a chore with my Fluxbuntu install, which I still use. We'll see how that goes as I plan to tackle that in the coming weeks.

Hi, I'm burnside and I'm a linux user. I've been using various distros for the last ten years and I've been windows free for most of that time as well. On a whim I gave Arch a try on a virtual machine a few weeks ago and found myself really enjoying it. So last night I decided to bit the bullet and install directly to my HD.

And I'm quite happy at the moment. The documentation is straightforward and easy to understand, the install process was painless, and I have a very lightweight install chugging away on my machine.

So big thanks to the development team, I think I'm going to be here for a while.

Hello, I am also new to Arch. I've tried a few other distros before because I just wanted to get away from windows. Ubuntu and openSUSE were good for the beginning, but Arch is just a step further. It runs faster and I understand most parts of how it works, which makes it easier to customize it

Well, I've been on and off here just for specific reasons and now I am here to stay. I might as well say hi since I've never introduced myself.
My names Daniel, live in Australia ( I don't have a kangaroo in my backyard ). Not an Arch user yet, but planning to have it on my main system in a month when I have the time.
I practically chose Arch because the pacman package manager looks really neat. Arch is a lot more bleeding edge compared to Debian, which is why I am going to stick with it.

I have my own blog at molom.wordpress.com related to all sorts of tech related stuff (OS's, Software, Hardware, electronics etc.)
Also I am a main member of the Maryan Linux Project (en.maryanlinux.com), which is currently under development planning to have an Arch edition and Debian edition both using E17 as their main DE.

When I finish installing Arch, planning to go back and forth using Gnome and E17.
