Hello,
I'm looking for a software to manage contacts, send and receive emails, make appointments, tasks .. (calendar).
Evolution seems to be able to do all of that, but I'd like to do all these things through a web-interface so all I need is a browser.
The benefit of such a software would be that you can use it from any location, on any device.
it should be free of course, and I'd prefer a php or python based backend
thanks

I'm not entirely sure I see where you're going with this, but Gmail offers forwarding to POP3 and IMAP. That means you can use Evolution, Kmail, or Thunderbird, among other clients, to access your Gmail messages.

found something ... horde.org, egroupware
tried horde and it basically worked, but I need more time to look into this
ps: I want to be independent from google, or any other company

Then in all reality you will have to write your own. Even with horde.org, you are at the whims and financial availability of the parent company or organization

I used Thunderbird with the Lightning add on for the calendar/tasks feature.

What is that reply supposed to mean?

means that I'm tired of such comments
of course, you're always dependent on the company/community/developers of the software... (else there would be no software)
with the sentence "I want to be independent from .." I meant, that I don't want to use particular services offered by a company
with e.g. horde, I just grab the latest version, install it on my server and it works.
if the project dies - doesn't matter, it still runs on my server and I can export all my data (and re-import it into another software)
the mails are on the IMAP server I choose, and the other things are stored in my database
makes sense, doesn't it?

Horde is pain to configure but otherwise quite nice to use, I would hope that you could use kronolith trough thunderbird etc.
BTW isn't it a bit overkill to have lamp groupware suite for single user?

I don't think so -- but are there any "lighter" alternatives?
and it's quite easy to configure imho, just like installing a cms or forum

I'm going to use eGroupware soon. Looks like the imminent 1.6-release brings some nice improvements. The GUI being one major improvement IMHO.
The feature list is great: IMAP, sendmail, LDAP, WebDAV, SyncML etc.
Zl.

yeah, so far I didn't have time to check egroupware (imo it's more complicated to set up than horde)
I really should take a look at that 1.6pre1 release..
do you know if it can be upgraded to the final release?
Offline
No, I have no idea. My hosting provider is still stuck at MySQL 4, so until they upgrade I cannot use eGroupware 1.6.
