Daemons....

Could I take out all my daemons except networking daemons, and put them into my autostart.sh file to start their?

Re: Daemons....

I don't see any reason why you couldn't.
You can start daemons whenever you want. Adding them to DAEMONS array in rc.conf is just a way how to make it easier(more practical).

Re: Daemons....

I believe we are talking about the DAEMONS in the /etc/rc.conf
I find this to be an extremely great place to have them.

Re: Daemons....

Yes I know, but I want to optimize time from boot to login. I have them as background now, but I was just wondering if this was possible. I just like to experiment big_smile

Re: Daemons....

You'll just wait after you type your username and password... no difference at all...
I'd suggest to split them up - half at boot time the other half at login... You'll notice some speed improvement before login and it won't be that much waiting time after logging in.

Re: Daemons....

Or you can background daemons in /etc/rc.conf by preceding them with the @ symbol.

Re: Daemons....

There's a difference, that in ./autostart you will have those daemons running under your user credentials. I don't know how good is that.

Maybe he's going for a "most time spent on the computer" world record, in which case every second counts.
