i have been successful in getting aterm to do what i want it to do except show the right section of my wallpaper. it shows the upper left hand corner of my wallpaper, but i have placed aterm itself in the lower right hand corner. here is the screenshot of aterm ( http://i523.photobucket.com/albums/w358 … nshot3.png ). here is what the desktop background looks like plain ( http://i523.photobucket.com/albums/w358 … narada.jpg ). below is my .Xdefaults. anybody have any ideas?
aterm*geometry: 70x20+750+500
aterm*transparent: true
aterm*scrollBar: false
aterm*borderLess: true
aterm*internalBorder: 0
aterm*borderWidth: 0

Maybe the tinting is too dark. Here's what I have in my .Xdefaults:
aterm*transparent: true
aterm*scrollBar_right: true
aterm*transpscrollbar: true
aterm*scrollTtyOutput: false
aterm*foreground: white
aterm*background: black
aterm*shading: 50
aterm*tintingType: true
aterm*tinting: white
aterm*fading: 50

i don't have any shading on it just transparency. it is using the wrong part of the desktop as the image for the transparency. it is using the upper left hand corner when you should be seeing the lower right hand corner of my back ground behind aterm.

I dont know if that solves your problem, but have you considered trying urxvt instead (rxvt-unicode in the extra repo). It has all the features that aterm has, plus it's still beeing developed (which isnt the case for aterm i think, correct me if im wrong). Configuration is pretty similar to aterm.
Since I switched, i didnt run into any problems with it. Hope it helps...

i tried out the urxvt. it fixes the transparency problem. now i have the problem that i can't get it to just stick to one desktop, i can't type in the terminal, and it is always on top of my open applications.

You work with gnome, huh? Hmm try searching the Ubuntu - wiki, there's a lot good stuff about such things (especially gnome). Personaly I dont know how to solve that prob. Have a nice day.

the problem has been fixed. i ran updates last night and when i rebooted this morning, aterm was showing the proper portion of my background. updates fixed the problem.
