systemlags with high cpu usage of the Xserver

Hi,

I installed the 64bit Arch on my laptop (fsc amilo XI2550) and use kdemod3. After a while I noticed that my system lags every 10-20 seconds for a fraction of a second. Not the hole system hangs, e.g. amarok keeps playing without any problems. I noticed similar problems with the 32bit Version. I allready tried the kernelparameter "nopat" I found somewhere in the forum, but didn't fix the problem.

Maybe important to mention ist that the cpu usage of the X-server raises to something between 40 and 60% when the system hangs ( top in a konsole). I don't know if the problem is related to my graphic card, an ati HD2700, because the relevant

lspci -v

entry is

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 9583 (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Fujitsu Siemens Computers Device 1107
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
    Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
    Memory at cfef0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
    I/O ports at 2000 [size=256]

Capabilities: [100] Vendor Specific Information <?>
    Kernel driver in use: fglrx_pci
    Kernel modules: fglrx

I had a lot of trouble with the card (system locks whith kdm, gdm xdm,.....)  and earlier kernel versions, but it seems to work now.
Does anybody experience simlar problems?
