You can also try lxappearance (from lxde project).
It allow to easily configure theme and icons for all Gtk software.

so you can select another icon theme for thunar, firefox, ...

I don't really get the following that rox gets.  I find myself using gui file managers for basically 1 thing.. cutting and pasting in bulk.  The way rox handles this simple/common operation is very unintuitive and clumsy to me.

I use thunar with my openbox and xfce desktops, and I use nautilus on my laptop for its seamless sftp integration.
