Youtube videos taking up 80-100% cpu

Hi there,

Flash videos (with the propietary adobe plugin) take up most of my cpu, even though mplayer can play much bigger videos without even reaching 10%. Is there a way to configure the flash player to avoid this problem? I'm using an old radeon card (Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000]) with the open source "radeon" driver.

If you use firefox:
Greasemonkey + http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/24999

This will play youtube vids with the mplayerplugin.

Thanks! Although something a bit more general (youtube isn't the sole video provider on the web...) would be nice.

Download them and play them with mplayer? There are firefox extensions that can d/l most flash videos from most sites on the web.

Not very user-friendly...
