[solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

I have been install the new version of compiz from repos. I restart the computer and I run compiz executing compiz-manager but this happens:

[an@ale_note ~]$ compiz-manager
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0407 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

Starting gtk-window-decorator
/usr/bin/compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format
/usr/bin/compiz-manager: line 383:  4461 Segmentation fault  ${COMPIZ_BIN_PATH}${COMPIZ_NAME} $COMPIZ_OPTIONS "$@" $COMPIZ_PLUGINS

If I try launch compiz with fusion-icon, the windows' borders disapears without any effect of compiz. sad

The 0.7.6 version was work fine.

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

Arch is i686, slightly modified stock kernel, latest nvidia modules on Geforce Go 7900 GS

Versions:

core/kernel26 2.6.26.5-1
extra/nvidia 173.14.12-3
extra/nvidia-utils 173.14.12-1
testing/xorg-server 1.5.0-1
community/ccsm 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-bcop 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-core 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-decorator-gtk 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-decorator-kde 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-fusion-plugins-extra 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-fusion-plugins-main 0.7.8-1
community/compiz-manager 0.6.0-2
community/compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.7.8-1
community/compizconfig-python 0.7.8-1
community/fusion-icon 20080313-1
community/libcompizconfig 0.7.8-1

I also tried
$ compiz --replace --indirect-rendering &
which killed metacity, but no window-decorators visible

I tried to switch the window decorator via fusion-icon with no effect and
$ emerald --replace &
had no effect either

neither compiz nor emerald crashed during this

I don't get it, you guys get the exact same error and I can't reproduce it on both my machines (x86_64 and i686)...

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

The segfault in compiz-manager doesn't worry me that much.
I just want compiz running with window decorators :-)

as said I had no problems running 0.7.6 with the exact same config

also switching from compizconfig-gconf backend to flat-file via ccsm doesn't make any difference.

compiz-manager is just a wrapper script which calls compiz with the required options, so most likely it is compiz segfaulting.

you can try my xorg.conf [1] to see if it makes any difference

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

After switching from compizconfig-gconf backend to flat file backend in ccsm
compiz & emerald work when launched with
compiz-manager --replace

though all my old plugin settings are gone now :-)
seems like it's a bug in a plugin or some setting values have changed from 0.7.6 to 0.7.8 ?

I echoed $COMPIZ_OPTIONS just before line 383 in the script
which are --ignore-desktop-hints --replace --loose-binding

However unchecking indirect-rendering in fusion-icon doesn't do the trick and even restarting a working compiz-config from fusion-icon crashes.

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

I finally found out the solution.

With the tip of gimpel, I reset the configuration to default values through CompizConfig and the compiz back work. big_smile

Edit: I found out the problematic plugin: Resizeinfo
When I active this plugin on CompizConfig, segfault back... big_smile

I recommend reset the configurations and reconfigure the compiz to avoid problems

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

After resetting my gconf backend config.
I activated some of the plugins I used with 0.7.6
seems the "Fenster-Skalier-Informationen" plugin (must be something like window-scaling-information in english)
crashes compiz.

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

same problem here!
my solution:
-i deactivated the resizeinfo plugin in ccsm -> exported my configuration to a file
-deleted the whole compiz directory under ~/.config (made a backup first)
-restarted compiz (fusion-plugin) -> it works
-imported my settings!

so everythings back to normal...just the resizeinfo plugin is not working!

Re: [solved] Problems updating compiz to 0.7.8

Hi, I have Compiz Fusion + Emerald + AWN as desktop environment. No KDE, no GNOME, no Openbox or whatever. I am using Compiz Fusion, so no vanilla desktop environment utilities available.

Everytime when I upgrade Compiz Fusion Plugins, the plugin in the directory $HOME/.compiz/plugins/<plugin> are not updated automatically. The new plugins are always landed to /usr/lib/compiz. Everytime when plugins are updated, I have to copy the plugin SO files from /usr/lib to $HOME/.compiz/plugins/<plugin> directory.

Is there a way to automate this? How can I tell Compiz that it must look for the plugins in /usr/lib/compiz but not in $HOME/.compiz/plugins ?

Try editing the compiz-manager script.
At the beginning of the file there is a variable called PLUGIN_PATH set to /usr/lib/compiz

Maybe this can help.
