xfce settings

hi everyone, i'm super new to arch linux, so i hope my question isn't toooo dumb =/

i just installed arch linux, and am using xfce (with compiz fusion, of course XD). Everything is working amazingly well (moreso than i had imagined), but i'm having problems with xfce not remembering settings.

Whenever i restart, my mouse speed will be different than the one i had set previously, and the keyboard shortcuts i had made don't work. The problem is usually solved if i just open up the Keyboard Settings, and then it starts working. Has anyone experienced this problem / know a solution to it?

thanks!!

Re: xfce settings

When logging out do you have the 'Remember settings' checked?

Re: xfce settings

I have the box "save session for future logins" checked (the one that shows up when you logout).

Re: xfce settings

Try deleting ~/.cache after you change your settings, but before you log out. Make sure to keep the save session box ticked.

Almost every time I had a problem in XFCE, deleting .cache fixed it. Just try it for kicks and giggles.

Re: xfce settings

I know this thread's a couple of months old, but I am having the same problem.

I set the keyboard shortcuts that I wanted in both Keyboard and Window Manager settings, and everything works until I restart XFCE.  Then, nothing works (right) until I go and open the Keyboard and Window Manager control panels, then all the shortcuts I set work again.

I tried deleting "$HOME/.cache", but that didn't work for me, either, and after a lot of searching around, I still cannot find a solution, other than to use Openbox as the window manager part.

Re: xfce settings

How are you launching xfce out of curiosity?

Re: xfce settings

"startxfce4" is what I am using.

I changed from Xfwm4 to Openbox, and set the shortcuts up in $HOME/config/openbox/rc.conf, and that works, but something strange I find:  if I press the "Page Down" key, the terminal will still launch, even though the keybind I set for that action is the "Menu" key.

Also, when I press the "Menu" key, Xev tells me that "Menu" is, indeed, the key I pressed just before the terminal window appears, however, if I press "Page Down," I do not ever see the KeyPress or KeyRelease events.

KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x2800001,
    root 0x83, subw 0x0, time 3922277, (357,68), root:(987,352),
    state 0x10, keycode 135 (keysym 0xff67, Menu), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XFilterEvent returns: False

When I was just using Openbox by itself, everything worked correctly.
