Hello,
I've recently installed Arch on my new laptop. I'm using gnome. I can't see the icon of Eclipse in 'Applications' menu. It's not a serious problem for me, but i like, when my Arch works perfect.
Today I've installed some KDE apps (from official repo) and I can't see icons at all. No icons in gnome menu, no icons in toolbars and menus.
I think there's a problem with default paths for icons in gnome. I have this problem on two computers (on both Arch was installed in last week).
Edit:
Eclipse: Icon path in eclipse.desktop is /usr/share/eclipse/icon.xpm - there's no such file.
After installing kdebase-runtime I can see icons in toolbars and menus (and applications looks better). It's interesting, that kdebase-runtime is not required by some KDE packages (for example kdegames ).
I'm still working on icons in Gnome menu.

This is a stab in the dark but check your gtkrc for the theme you are using and make sure that it doesn't specify no icons in the menu. I'm sorry I don't know the exact syntax because I am at work - but if you don't have it solved by tonight I will post exactly what I mean.

Nope that's not it. It works in XFCE, which I use. Sorry I couldn't help.

encountered exactly the same problem here
both eclipse and some kde programs (umbrello) aren´t show up as a icon in the application menue

All those problems should be solved by the upcoming KDE 4.1.2.

but is the missing eclipse button really a kde related issue? (i´m using gnome)
btw. some other icons such as the one for vidalia (gui for controlling tor) are missing too

I also miss the eclipse icon, allthough i don't think its a Desktop Enviroment (KDE,GNOME,XFCE) problem but a eclipse package problem.
After looking which files the eclipse package installs i couldn't locate the icon file (the xpm) so it is already missing there and thats the problem.

oke i have been searching for the icon.xpm file and found it in eclipse 3.3.1 package on the eclipse site. it doesn't explain why they deleted it
