[Solved] DISPLAY is not set

Hey all, running through the Beginners guide of the wiki, and I'm getting an issue when I test X.

When I run:

X -config /root/xorg.conf

I get the nice little X cursor, and while it's nice to look at, I have to believe that there is more that X can offer me.

The issue begins when I do:

xterm

This gives me:

xterm Xt error: Can't open display: %s
xterm: DISPLAY is not set

I tried setting the xorg.conf that I use on my Ubuntu install to the xorg.conf for Arch, but I get the exact same issue.

Any ideas?  Need more info?  I'd post the relevant file, but I'm posting this on my work laptop, and only have a CLI on my personal one.

Re: [Solved] DISPLAY is not set

Have you tried following the guide by configuring your .xinitrc, and then running xinit?
You could also try

xinit /usr/bin/xterm

Re: [Solved] DISPLAY is not set

Turns out that uninstalling the open-source ATI drivers and installing the proprietary drivers did the trick.
