How to terminate X smoothly???

1. Is there a command to shutdown an X Server cleanly so that no error messages will be shown (like "X connection to :0.0 broken explicit kill or server shutdown" etc.). I'm starting x with startx as a normal user.

2. Is there a way to autologin user in XDM???

Re: How to terminate X smoothly???

1. That's normal X behaviour, there isn't really another way to shut it down as far as I know. It's hopefully fixed in newer versions, but it's not really a problem, just ugly. I quit X with ctrl+alt+backspace.

2. I'm pretty sure there's a way to autologin users with XDM, no idea how. GDM has it for sure anyway. (But why bothering to startup a login manager when you're going to autologin anyway?)

Re: How to terminate X smoothly???

pwned again yikes

I thought it was some kind of important error and wanted to try logging with xdm, but as far as it's normal behaviour i'll stick with startx.

Sorx for troubling and thanks.
