Packman Locked

I am trying to update even after a full system restart pacman is locked and I have tried running pacman -Syu as root. What do I do to check what is making pacman unavailable.

What do you mean it is locked? Post any error output.

The Error I got was

:: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed to init transaction (unable to lock database)
  if you're sure a package manager is not already
  running, you can remove /var/lib/pacman/db.lck
