Hey, good to see you got it all set up.. and a nice setup that is! I read the other thread about getting your X up and running, and I only wish there were more people like you who won't give up after 15mins if something's not working right away.
Welcome to arch!
..now how about dumpinig that windows of your other pc

Glad you stuck to it and got it all working! Welcome.... you will never want to leave

I would prefer KDE4 because it also uses not much resources and is very beautiful why do you use XFCE?

To obsrv .. Oh um I dont know lol. Ive used GNOME and XFCE only. (Unless mint uses another one that I dont know about.) And I liked XFCE when I ran Dream Linux.
To Allan: Thanks buddy! And NO WAY I WANT TO LEAVE!!!!
To sm4tik: Lol thanks! I wish I could perma dump windows.. Im doing this for my bro and dad and unfortunately they may still need windows for certain things.. Im just going to shrink windows and set Arch on a dual boot. It was weird I had some problems getting my whole Gui up and running.. first time around I had been bouncing around so many wikis that I screwed something up (I went into boot/grub/menu.lst and changed something that I couldnt fix so I had to start from scratch ;; ) and then I tried to use GNOME and GDM.. but GNOME wouldn't start for some reason.. X threw back a bunch of complaints about C library or something I dont know sometimes these errors fly by so fast I cant catch them. So I deleted them out, went back to XFCE, then setup KDM and im happy
To: abowlt1990: Thanks!
Arch Linux is what I've been waiting for XD an OS thats simple at the start and I can tell it what I want!

Are you sure that's XFCE4 in the screenshots there ?
Looks like KDE4 to me

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

Uhh.. Im kinda sure? Lol you know I was asking myself the same thing since when I first got xfce4 I turned it on, and it looked alot different from what I have now.. I did download KDE but to setup KDM as my login manager.. maybe I screwed something up again but it resulted in a workable GUI lol.. yay me!

That's KDE.
You dont have to install KDE to use KDM (I hope??), but there's better alternatives - SLIM i.e.
I prefer the normal text console login though. That's more haxx0r.

Thats weird.. in my $HOME/.xinitrc file I dont have KDE enabled its still commented, I have XFCE executing not KDE.. so thats goofy lol. BUT HEY! I like KDE4 more than XFCE4 so I think ill stick with that.. Im wondering though if I should go into my .xinitrc file and enable KDE..

I'm not 100% sure, but I think KDM ignores ~/.xinitrc and uses its own config instead.

That would make sense I guess. and maybe thats why XFCE4 isnt arguing with KDE4 since its superimpossing itself over xinitrc so its not executing my XFCE4 lines in it

Exacly.
.xinitrc gets parsed by startx, xinit and SliM login manager.
KDM and GDM however, ignore it completely.
So yea, newsflash for ya - you're running KDE!
Thought I was crazy for a second there....

I'm not sure about kdm but GDM and WDM read .xinitrc if you select "default" from the sessions menu.

Well that makes sense then heh thanks for the info. Gonna get this setup on my pc once I figure out why when it boots arch live from disc it hangs when it's configuring systemclock. No 3d accel in vbox so I can't play with shiny thinks like ccsm or kairo(?)dock heh.
