git packages, cloning the repo at a certain date.

Just like for svn or cvs packages where you use at version the release or the date I'd like to make a git package and so download the repo updated up a certain date or release.

I sought in git manual, but I did not understand how to. It seem I have to clone the repository and commit a revert. But I am missing something. Do anyone know how to have the repository in the state of a certain date/revision?

the wiki silently skips the problem too... I'll update it when I know the answer.

tnx
